The Starr Group Welcomes New President

GREENFIELD, WI (December 2017) – For over 60 years, The Starr Group has been a stalwart sentinel in Southeastern Wisconsin for Commercial and Personal insurance, and now a leader in applying Risk Management principles to Group Health Benefits. The independent insurance and risk management agency announced the December 1 appointment of Paul M. Neuberger to President of The Starr Group. He is joining the agency’s Leadership Team which includes CEO Tim Starr, Executive VP Mary Starr, and VP of Operations Maureen Arndt.
In April of 2016, The Starr Group was introduced to The Cold Call Coach Paul Neuberger when he presented at a best practices sales seminar. Impressed by Neuberger’s enthusiasm and sharing many of the same philosophies, Tim Starr invited Neuberger to directly coach the agency’s sales team. “Not many people ‘get it’,” Starr said of Neuberger’s modus operandi, “Paul gets it.” The immediate effects were apparent. The sales staff recorded an amazing 18 appointments in a single week simply by employing Neuberger’s cold calling methods.
Neuberger became an invaluable resource to the sales team in the ensuing months. He was contracted to continue as sales consultant to The Starr Group. “Paul’s methodology has given us a definite advantage over our competitors,” Starr said.
He partnered with The Starr Group in August and September of 2017 in the 4-part seminar series “Cold Calling for Success” held at Alverno College. The educational event was open to local business owners and their sales teams. “It’s always been a dream of mine to help other business owners succeed,” said Starr, “This series had nothing to do with insurance, and everything to do with overall business success.” Neuberger’s Cold Call method has been proven to work in any industry.
As The Starr Group began experiencing another growth spurt, it became apparent to Starr that it was time to expand the agency’s leadership at the management level. After much deliberation of how that could come to fruition, Starr made the decision to relinquish his title and duties as President. He will retain his title as CEO of The Starr Group and all the active responsibilities therein. “I’m not going away,” Starr laughs, “I’m here and going to be as hands on as ever, just more focused.”
Starr acknowledged the growth of the agency depends on bringing in young talent. Nick Starr, Tim’s son, is the third generation of Starrs to work in the business -- and building -- built by Robert Starr, Tim’s father. “Nick will definitely continue to play a key role in the agency,” Starr said, “for years to come.”
Starr verified that Neuberger underwent the Cultural Index assessment required of all prospective employees. “It just confirmed what we already knew: Paul is a tremendous fit. He’s the logical choice to fill the President position.”
Neuberger’s affinity for The Starr Group was apparent as well. “The Starr Group is phenomenal,” he said, citing the agency’s culture as one of the biggest draws. “The people are great. They welcomed me as one of their own right away. When I was a consultant, they included me and my family in their activities. When my daughter was born, they threw a ‘surprise shower’. My family was invited to the agency’s Family Picnic.” He says with a smile, “There is no other company I would have considered making this transition for.”
Because of his reputation as The Cold Call Coach, Neuberger has clients in 33 states and students in 61 countries through “Cold Call University”. Even though he will be focusing full efforts on The Starr Group’s sales force, Neuberger is not totally abandoning his Cold Call followers. “I’ll continue to be a thought-leader,” he explained, “and post best practice tips for businesses in general.”
As President of The Starr Group, Neuberger himself will not be working in a sales producer role. He will be working closely with each producer to strategically open doors for them and maximize their sales efforts. “I love teaching,” Neuberger says, “and I love seeing the results.”
Neuberger holds a Master’s degree in Organizational Quality and Leadership from Marian University as well as a Bachelor’s degree from Ripon College. His career path led him through sales and fundraising to education and financial. The Starr Group is ecstatic that Neuberger’s skill sets are now being applied to the insurance trade. He is bringing a fresh approach to training and leadership at a time when the talent recruitment is critical all across the nation in the industry.
Neuberger joins The Starr Group just as the agency is adding five new employees.
