Wisconsin Worker’s Compensation Paid Furlough Employee Updates
The Wisconsin Compensation Rating Bureau (WCRB) has just filed and approved a new code: 0012 – Paid Furlough Workers During a Governmental Emergency Order Impacting Employment.
Any company with employees that are not working but that are continuing to be paid during a government-ordered shutdown, such as the current Safer at Home Executive order, can keep records indicating this code and they will not be charged premium on this payroll.
There are, however, some limitations to keep in mind:
- Code 0012 is only applicable while there is an active statewide declaration of emergency that causes employee furlough. Governor Evers’ Safer at Home Order is currently in effect from March 17, 2020 through April 24, 2020.
- Employees are not eligible to split payroll between 0012 and any other class code. This means that if the employee is doing any work for part of the day, that day’s payroll goes into the employee’s normally assigned class code
- If records are not kept indicating that employees were furloughed, all employee wages will be assigned to normal class codes.
