What is Ordinance or Law Coverage?
What is Ordinance or Law Coverage?
Ordinance or Law is an important coverage to have on your home and rental properties.
In the event of a loss, this coverage will pay for the increased costs necessary to comply with an ordinance or law, regulating the construction, repair or demolition of the covered structure.
Example: A fire has swept through your home resulting in a total loss. You would like to rebuild at the same location, however the city will only allow this if you are at least twenty feet from the sidewalk. The remaining part of the fire damaged structure is only ten feet from the sidewalk. This part will need to be demolished, removed and rebuilt at the required twenty feet. The associated demolition and debris removal is an additional part of the rebuilding process and, therefore will add additional costs. Those additional costs would be paid out under the Ordinance or Law coverage.
