About Us

Robert Starr founded The Starr Group in 1956. Fifty years later, under the ownership of partners Tim Starr, CIC, CRM, CRIS and Mark Priestaf, CIC, CRM, The Starr Group has grown into one of the largest independent insurance agencies in Wisconsin with offices in Greenfield and Oshkosh.

The Starr Group is an Insurance/Risk Management agency with the capabilities of advising clients on everything from their business insurance, including group health, to personal insurance. We also provide assistance in Human Resources Compliance, Loss Control, Workers' Compensation Claims Administration and E-Services.

The Starr Group is unique in their approach to client services because of the high education requirements for their sales and service personnel. The goal is to not only provide insurance to clients but also to become an advisor who reviews clients' needs and analyzes their total cost of risk. Having a staff that is highly educated in the industry promotes higher quality advice and insurance products for clients.

You deserve an agency that believes in honesty, sincerity, mutual trust and respect from your agent - an agent who learns by listening, not talking.

Whether your needs are commercial insurance, employee benefits or home and auto coverage, The Starr Group can provide you with the best protection for your business, your family and your assets.

It's NOT just business, It's Personal.

Insurance specialists who are educated and accredited are here to effectively help you in their areas of expertise:

BEST PRACTICES 2001 - 2006

THE STARR GROUP has been selected for the 6th year in a row as part of an elite group of independent insurance agencies around the United States participating in the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA) "Best Practices" Study Group.

Each year the IIABA and Reagan Consulting, an Atlanta-based management consulting firm, join forces to study the country's leading agencies in six revenue categories. The agencies comprising the study groups are selected every third year through a comprehensive nomination and qualifying process and are awarded a "Best Practices Agency" designation. The selected "Best Practices" agencies retain their status during the three-year cycle by submitting extensive financial and operational data for review each year.

More than 800 independent agencies throughout the U.S. were nominated to take part in the annual study, but only 195 agencies qualified for the honor. To be chosen, an agency must be nominated by either an IIABA-affiliated state association or an insurance company and then qualified based on their operational excellence.

The Best Practices Study was initiated by IIABA in 1993 as the foundation for efforts to improve agency performance. The annual survey and study of leading independent insurance agencies documents the business practices of the "best" agencies and urges others to adopt similar practices.

Founded in 1896, IIABA is the nation's oldest and largest national association of independent insurance agents and brokers, representing a network of more than 300,000 agents, brokers and their employees nationally. Its members are businesses that offer customers a choice of policies from a variety of insurance companies. Independent agents and brokers offer all lines of insurance - property, casualty, life and health - as well as employee benefit plans and retirement products. Web address: www.independentagents.com.
